Access Statement For Crystal Lodge Holiday Apartments

Introduction

Crystal Lodge was built around 1900 and was originally two separate boarding houses. In 1975 the two houses were converted into one property, providing 16 self catering holiday flats for tourists. In 2004 the current owners started a modernisation programme and reduced the number of apartments to 11.

Pre-Arrival

• We have a full website and we are listed in numerous directories, including visitblackpool.com  
• Bookings can be made by email, telephone or letter.
• Crystal Lodge is suitable for families, couples and senior citizens. We are not suitable for "Party weekends" or similar. Other groups may be welcome - please call to confirm.
• The nearest bus and tram stops are on the promenade, some 120 metres from the front door.
• Taxis suitable for wheelchairs can be booked from reception and are readily available.
• Wheelchairs and other mechanised mobility equipment can be hired from nearby establishments.
• Crystal Lodge is suitable for those in wheelchairs and with visual or hearing difficulties. It is better if they are accompanied. If it is not possible to be accompanied, please contact us so that we can make suitable arrangements.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

• Guests should arrive at the front entrance to unload bags and to be allocated a car parking space.
• There is parking for 6 cars at the rear of the building, which is accessed by a service road. The car park is approximately 100 metres from the front door.
• There is no access from the car park to the rear of the building.
• The front entrance from the footpath is 245cms wide, leading to 2 steps, 19cms high x 90cms deep x 240cms wide to the outer front door. There is a short wall on each side of the steps from 70cms high at the bottom to 35cms high at the top.
• There are two patio areas at the front, either side of the entrance, each with a table, two benches and an armchair.
• There is a wheelchair ramp situated on the right side of the steps as you enter the building. It is designed for Motorised Wheelchair access but may be used by guests with normal wheelchairs or children's pushchairs. It is 1 metre wide x 1.75 metres long with a gradient of 1:6 which is steeper than the Accessibility Recommended standard, but which allows it to fit within the constraints of the entrance. It is constructed of galvanised steel with handrails on both sides. The base has raised edges and is "cross hatched" so as to be slip resistant. However it may be slippery when wet, and should be used with caution on those occasions. Guests are requested not to allow their children to play on the ramp. Crystal Lodge cannot accept liability for accidents caused by improper use of the ramp. There are steps to the side of the ramp which should always be used under normal circumstances by able bodied guests.

Main Entrance & Reception

• There are two doors from the top of the steps to the hallway, separated by a short lobby 118cms x 127cms. The doors are a minimum of 80cms wide x 205cms high. Both are hinged right and open inwards.
• The hallway is "T" shaped, 130cms x 180cms, opening to 350cms x 180cms. The distance from front door to stairs is 360cms.
• Reception is situated to the left of the inner front door.
• There is a bell at reception and a bell externally to the left of the main entrance.
• Access from the outside can only be gained with keys, which are issued on arrival.

Public Areas - General (Internal)

• The only public areas are the hallways and stairs. All Stairs are 20cms high x 80cms wide x 21cms deep and have a banister rail to the left or right at a height of approximately 80 cms from the step. As the building was once two houses, there are two separate flights of stairs, one to the right and one to the left.
• From the ground floor hallway, there are two flights of 12 stairs, leading to the 1st floor half-landing 410cms x 70cms.
• From this there are a further 3 stairs leading to Apartment 10; 4 stairs to the left to a half landing "L" shaped 200cms x 230cms x 80cms wide to Apartment 9. From this landing there are 10 stairs to the 2nd floor half-landing 410cms x 76cms. Left from this landing there are 5 stairs to Apartment 15.
• From 1st floor half-landing turn right there are 4 stairs to a"L" shaped half-landing 200cms x 230cms x 80cms to Apartments 8 and 6. From this half-landing, there are 10 stairs to the 2nd floor half-landing. Directly ahead, 3 stairs to Apartments 11 and 12; to the right, 5 stairs to Apartment 16.


There are Fire Alarm Call Points and Sounders in the main hall, all landings and in some apartments.
